Graphic Design by hand

Welcome to graphic studio. We combined patterns and silhouettes to make funky greeting cards.
Best of all, they are hand made by the kids. No computer art. In this computer age it's very fun to make and to receve actual hand made greeting cards!

Picasso Lesson

Pablo Picasso is one of the greatest artists whose work transcends time. He was not simply satisfied with doing the same old realistic pictures.  One of the forerunners of cubism, he went on to create bold, colorful and daring art. I had the boys copy his composition with the bull scull. They each did it in their own style. As well as an introduction to an artist whom the boys did not know before, we studied how to mix colors and how to create a well-composed picture. Good job boys!

Monet Lesson

Today with Liza we studied the paintings of Claude Monet.
She did a painting of the japanese bridge in his style.
We did tape masking the bridge, for an interesting look.
Here, the painting is shown with/without the tape removed.
I think it looks interesting both ways! Great job Liza!

La Giaconda Part 2

Jenny finished her Mona Lisa today.  I am very pleased with the outcome.  She puts a lot of effort and thought into her work.

Things that Go!

Today with the boys we drew cars, airplanes and hellicopters. We also read a book about Alexander Calder. I wanted them to also create 3D car models out of wire and modeling clay, but we only had one hour :)
So we decided to leave that for our next class. The boys were all very good and were really into drawing and making up their compositions. I think each of them has his own creative ways of approaching their work and solving art problems. It's fun to go on this journey with them and find out the way they view their world through art!

En Plain Air

Summer is a great time to go out and draw outside.  Lucky for us, we have many beautiful locales to go to and enjoy drawing.  Today Liza went to draw on Cedar Grove beach. She painted an ocean/beach scene with oil pastels.  Another great work to frame!

La Gioconda Part 1

Wow, need I say more? Jenny rocks.
First she drew the Mona Lisa, in pencil, then she painted on top of her drawing.
She got a lot done only in one lesson, she will finish the painting in her next class.
I am so impressed with her and look forward to see the finished piece.

Robots of the Future

I have had the pleasure of teaching three boys in my classroom today - Adrian, Anthony and Dennis.
They were extremely nice and fun to work with.  I wanted to see where they are in terms of drawing.
We had fun with drawing robots from their imaginations, combined with some animal elements.
I tried to channel the lesson to their wants to make it interesting.

Watercolor animals

Today Liza painted animals using watercolors, pencil and marker. She had fun mixing media and creating vibrant pictures. She drew an iguana and a kitty.
I think this girl has an amazing style all her own! She is not afraid to make a "wrong" line and I love that! Just look at these masterpieces!

Jenny's animals and cartoons

Today Jenny drew stylized animals and a cartoon person.
She followed a simple tutorial with much skill and patience and the result came out awesome!
She got the point about keeping the right proportions and exaggerating some features to achieve a stylized cartoon look.
